Celebrating Steve Reich at 90

Steve Reich has been described as “our greatest living composer” (NY Times). We celebrate his 90th birthday with the North American premiere of In All Your Ways for 14 instruments, co-commissioned by Soundstreams, Carnegie Hall, Edinburgh Festival, Philharmonie de Paris and others. The program includes two legendary signature masterpieces: Music for 18 Musicians and Clapping Music, all performed by some of the world’s greatest interpreters of his music. Clapping Music features an exclusive screening with Reich performing one of the parts on film and Russell Hartenberger performing the other live on stage.
Celebrating Steve Reich at 90 will include: Gary Kulesha, conductor; Jeffrey Stonehouse, Stephen Tam, flutes; Noa Sarid, David Baik, violins; Ronen Shifron, viola; Joanne Yesol Choi, cello; Anthony Thompson and Marc Blouin, clarinets; Gregory Oh, Stephanie Chua, Midori Koga, Wesley Shen, pianos; Vania Chan, Xin Wang, Lindsay McIntyre, sopranos; Andrea Ludwig, mezzo-soprano; Russell Hartenberger, Bob Becker, Aiyun Huang, Ryan Scott, Michelle Colton, and Michael Murphy, percussion.

This June, the historic rooms of
Campbell House Museum transform
into a world where echoes of the past
and whispers from the underworld
begin to surface.
Created by choreographer Emily Cheung in collaboration with the dancers of Little Pear Garden Dance Company, Echoes of the Underworld is an immersive dance theatre experience inspired by Chinese folklore, ghost legends, and ritual traditions.
Instead of sitting in a theatre seat, audiences move through the historic house in small groups, encountering fragments of a supernatural story unfolding across multiple rooms.

In this rare revival, Rezonance Baroque Ensemble presents a short, unstaged opera by Italian composer Maria Margherita Grimani (1680 – c.1720). Grimani was an early operatic trailblazer, but her music was long overlooked by music history. This short work was composed for the name day of Emperor Charles VI, in Vienna. Pallas Athena (Vania Chan) and Mars (Andrea Ludwig) take turns praising the emperor. Pallas, radiant and resolute, stands in poised contrast to the impetuous Mars, their musical dialogue crackling with both rivalry and revelation.

Enjoy the drama and vocal pyrotechnics of Vivaldi's opera arias and get to know a different side of his orchestral music with a selection of his concerti for strings. concert series,in Hamilton. Rezonance brings you the vocal pyrotechnics
of coloratura soprano Vania Chan. Some, such as the Domine Deus from
his "Gloria", may be familiar, while others are the hidden gems you have
come to expect from Rezonance programming. Get to know a different
side of Vivaldi's orchestral music as well, with a selection of his concerti
for strings - no one instrument gets to shine in these concerti that
showcase the entire orchestra.

A New Opera by Madeleine Thien (librettist), Alice Ho (composer),

Vania premieres the role of "Wenli" in this story of family and neighbourhood, racism and resistance, history and tomorrow. In two acts and two hours it examines six characters, two families, and a chorus of male ghosts, from the building of the CPR through to our own times. It deals with violence and despair, the Head Tax, the Exclusion Act, paper sons, and paper promise.
